Introduction to Web Development

Web Basics 101 is essential for anyone just starting out their path to becoming a web developer or designer. In this class, you will learn the basics of HTML and CSS even if you have no prior training or experience. Web 101 will start you off on your first web site layout.

What will I learn?

In this introductory course you will begin your journey to become a web developer.  We will provide you with a strong foundation to build your skills and create your own website using HTML and CSS. Whether you want to develop a web presence for your business or find a new career in web design, this course will get you started.

  • Intro to Web
  • The DOM - The Basic HTML Tags
  • Separation of Concerns - Content vs Presentation vs Functionality
  • A Simple CSS layout
  • Browser Dev Tools

Where and when is this class held?

This course is held 1-day per week for 8-weeks. Each 2.5 hour session is from 6pm-8:30pm.

This course will be held in the Maclab at the Flagship2 Business Incubator  at 78 Alexander Street.

What can I accomplish?

After finishing this course, you will have the fundamental knowledge of HTML and CSS to style your own web site.

Are there any prerequisites?

While some knowledge of Web development is helpful, as a long as you have the basic knowledge of how to use a computer and the desire to rapidly learn about Web development, you qualify for this course.

Pre-Class Preparation:

The main tools we'll be using in Web 101 are Atom, which is a syntax-highlighting and highly customizable text editor, and also Chrome (Google's web browser). Feel free to download Atom and also Google Chrome prior to the start of class.
